MATCH- Mediterranean as the Climate Hotspot

In October of 2025, I conducted a research and creation residency in Athens at the Duncan Dance Research Center (DDRC), focused on community gardens and regenerative artistic practices in the Mediterranean. This residency is part of the continuation of my project PYROSCAPES. Where fire is considered not only as a destructive natural phenomenon, but also as a vector of ecological regeneration, transmission, and knowledge.

My work explores the ecologies of fire: I study how practices of controlled burning, natural regeneration processes, and traditional knowledge can support biodiversity while helping to limit the risks of destructive wildfires. My research highlights pyrophilous plants adapted to fire cycles and examines the cultural and material dimensions of wool, a material that, through its origin and artisanal use, is deeply connected to fire culture and to practices of caring for the land.

This one-month residency, produced by Delta Pi Productions and hosted by the DDRC, allowed me to explore Greek landscapes marked by the impacts of climate change, particularly areas affected by wildfires in Attica and on the island of Chios, connecting field observation, narratives from local communities, and sensitive artistic practices.

My work is part of the European project MATCH – Mediterranean as the Climate Hotspot, a transnational program of artistic residencies and exchanges that brings together artists, cultural organizations, and community gardens around climate change in five Mediterranean cities: Athens, Nicosia, Marseille, Barcelona, and Izmir. MATCH aims to strengthen community engagement and promote regenerative, solidaristic practices rooted in local knowledge in response to the climate challenges specific to Mediterranean regions.

Within this collaborative framework, La Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille is one of the main cultural partners, contributing to the program through initiatives of cooperation, mediation, and training around ecological transitions and engaged artistic practices.

On October 31, I presented a stage of my research in the gardens of the DDRC, which were transformed for the occasion into a living archive dedicated to reflection, movement, and attention to the ecological transformations of the Mediterranean basin. This residency lays the groundwork for an exhibition planned for April 2026, where I will continue to deepen these questions of fire, regenerative practices, and the interactions between cultures, communities, and territories.
